In France, the “camera alert” debate mixes three things: information about a fixed installation, a wave detector (illegal), and an incentive to exceed the limit. OpenRank only does the first.
What is allowed
Telling the driver they are approaching a known fixed camera — so they can match the speed limit — is a danger-zone warner, not a jammer. That is the frame OpenRank operates in: free speed-camera app with no subscription.
What OpenRank does not do
- Detect the waves of a speed gun.
- Locate a mobile camera “live” like a scanner.
- Encourage driving above the limit (“129 for 130”).
- Run GPS continuously in the background: only during a trip you start.
Responsibility
The driver remains responsible for their speed. An alert is not a permit. Product vs Waze / Coyote: OpenRank vs Waze vs Coyote.
